Linda S.
Heflin
Jan 21, 1950 — Sep 15, 2025
Linda S. Heflin , age 75 and nearly lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born January 21, 1950 in Sharpsville, Kentucky, the daughter of Carl and Elizabeth "Louise" (Toy) York. Linda was a 1968 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School. She married her soulmate, David L. Heflin on December 19, 1969, and they spent over 55 wonderful years of marriage together raising two accomplished sons. Linda was baptized at East Main Street Christian Church where she remained a member and formerly served as deaconess at the church. Linda worked as a cook at Edgewood Elementary School cafeteria for over 10 years. Later, she retired from Progressive Plastics (formerly Royce Corporation) in Elwood in 2010 after 10 years of service.
She always greeted everyone with a smile. Linda was known for being organized and detailed in everything she set out to do. She was absolutely devoted to her family and grandchildren in every way, and they brought immense love and joy to her life. Linda was blessed to retire early from working in order to be "Mamaw" and care for her grandchildren during the days. Her family remembers her being an excellent cook, and they especially loved her homemade sweet potato casserole and delicious chicken and noodles. Linda treasured the time she spent with Dave, going to car shows around the state with their 1960 Corvette and 1940 Ford; or simply relaxing on the porch swing together at home. Linda and Dave were devoted grandparents who rarely missed any of their grandchildren's sports or school functions. In recent years, she also enjoyed sewing various things for her grandkids and was an avid supporter of Autism research. Linda's legacy will live on in a host of beautiful memories; a family who treasured her dearly; and countless people in the community who called her a friend.
Linda's family includes her husband, David L. Heflin of Elwood; 2 sons, Dr. Kyle (Nikki) Heflin of Westfield and Dr. John (Erin) Heflin of Daleville; 2 brothers, Roger (Dianna) York of Converse and Dewayne York of Elwood; sister-in-law, Donna York of Jonesboro; 6 beloved grandchildren, Kelsey, Delaney, Brady, Owen, Isla, and Aiden; sister-in-law, Joyce Heflin of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Doug York and Ewell York; sister, Carole (and Jack) Giselbach; mother and father-in-law, John and Agnes Heflin; sister-in-law, Gloria Buchheit; brother-in-law, Chuck Heflin; nieces and nephews, Greg Couch, Josh Weaver, and Amanda Smith; and many special aunts and uncles.
A funeral service celebrating Linda's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of Heritage Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 to 2 pm on Friday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Linda requested memorial contributions be made to the Autism Society of Indiana through the funeral home. Online condolences and memories may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
