Linda B. (Cress) Alvey, age 69 of Elwood, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood. She was born October 16, 1944 in Elwood, the daughter of Robert and Evelyn (Dockery) Croy. She worked in home healthcare for many years, and was also a homemaker. Following the death of her first husband, Arthur Cress, she married Stephen K. Alvey on November 8, 1980. She was baptized and formerly attended Grace United Methodist Church in Elwood. Linda enjoyed working with flowers, and was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her husband, Stephen Alvey of Elwood; 4 children, William (wife RaeAnn) Cress of Frankton, Julie Cress-Corbett of Elwood, Brooke (husband Joe) Gazdon of Florida, and Joshua (wife Jill) Alvey of Elwood; 7 siblings, Kathy (husband Larry) Massey of Elwood, Robert (wife Shelley) Croy of Muncie, David (wife Wanda) Croy of Frankton, Patricia Helpling of Elwood, Nick (wife Teri) Croy of Elwood, Debbie (husband Dave) Smith of Elwood, and Kenneth (wife Bee) Croy of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Arthur Cress; 2 sons, Eric Rush Carpenter and Robert Cress; daughter, Tina Alvey-Davis; and 2 grandchildren, Christopher Corbett and Elura Gazdon.
A funeral service celebrating Linda's life will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Stan Alvey (Linda's brother-in-law) officiating. Burial will take place in the Elwood City Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
