Obituary

Leonard C. "Lennie" Merida, III , age 80, of Noblesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Riverwalk Village after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 20, 1946, in Elwood to Leonard and Jenive K. (Crull) Merida, Lennie distinguished himself as a 1964 graduate of Anderson High School. He served with honor for six years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, shaping his lifelong commitment to leadership and service.

Lennie married his beloved wife, Brenda Dawn Cockram, on November 28, 1970, and together they built a remarkable partnership that spanned over five decades until her passing in 2020. As a devoted member of Crosspoint Church in Fishers, Lennie's integrity and wisdom were recognized by all who knew him.

A true entrepreneur, Lennie successfully owned and operated an office equipment business before retiring in 2006. His restless spirit and passion for community then led him to establish a coffee shop, where he fostered countless friendships over six years. Renowned for his sophisticated taste and curiosity, Lennie and Brenda traversed the globe, embracing new cultures and experiences at every turn.

Their adventures took them to Florida, Atlanta, and Virginia, with Panama City Beach, Florida holding a special place in their hearts. Lennie's love for remodeling and restoring homes was matched only by his ability to turn every residence into a gathering place for friends and family.  Above all, Lennie was the steadfast leader of his family—a proud brother and uncle—who inspired those around him with his generosity, wisdom, and sense of adventure. His legacy is reflected in the lives he touched and the cherished memories created with those he loved.

Lennie is survived by his sister, Jennifer (Bob) Malloy of New Castle; nephew, Matt T. (Allison) Malloy; niece, Megan (Jody) Bell; 2 great-nieces, Kerington Malloy, and Marley Bell; 2 great-nephews, Brendan Bell, and Hank Bell; and numerous extended friends and family.  Lennie is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Brenda Merida.

A memorial service celebrating Lennie's life and legacy will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Curt Walters of Crosspoint Church officiating.  Military honors will be held during the service at the funeral home by the U.S. Navy and Elwood V.F.W.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service on Friday, June 5, 2026 at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Crosspoint Church.  Online condolences and stories may be shared with the family at copherfeslermay.com.
