Lawrence Schmitter, age 83, of Elwood, passed away on June 30, 2017 at Methodist Hospital-I.U. Health in Indianapolis.  He was born on August 15, 1933 in Carroll County, Indiana, the son of Francis A. and Marie L (Greevey) Schmitter.  Lawrence was self-employed and had worked as a farmer, a semi-truck driver, and most recently as a salvage dealer for many years.  Lawrence attended Catholic Masses in Alexandria, Tipton, and Muncie. He was known for his industriousness and work ethic, often starting by 5:00 am and working until 9:00 pm every day.  He enjoyed taking long drives in the country or simply relaxing with friends and watching TV.

Lawrence's family includes his brother Hubert Schmitter of Frankfort, and sister Mary Busard of Rushville.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Francis, Augustus, Marie, Tobias, Paul, Anna, Bob, and Dick.
