Laura Kim Short , age 65 of Foley, Alabama and formerly of Elwood passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at her home following an extended illness.  She was born Nov 30, 1958 in Elwood, the daughter of Harold Harding and Carolyn M. (Kohn) Ballinger.  Kim was a 1977 graduate of Tri-Central High School before attending nursing college.  She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for 40 years, and was a dedicated nurse who was gifted in caring for others.  Kim enjoyed reading, playing bingo, and crocheting.  She was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need.  More than anything, Kim loved spending time with her family and friends.  Her beautiful smile and personality will never be forgotten.

Kim's family includes her companion, Tara Warner of Foley, AL; son, Robert (wife Retta) Gross; daughter, Katherine Rutledge; grandson, Jack Gross; and 2 brothers, Benjamin (wife Zenny) Ballinger of Alabama, and Charles (wife Susan) Ballinger of Indiana.  Kim is preceded in death by her mother and father.

Kim's wishes were to have a private burial in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
