Obituary

Larry S. Denton , age 77 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2026 at his residence following an extended illness. Born on February 18, 1948 in Elwood to Ralph and Thelma (Reichart) Denton, Larry was a man of integrity, courage, and deep devotion. A 1966 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army after graduation and served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. Larry was a highly decorated veteran, earning numerous medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. His commitment to his fellow veterans remained strong throughout his life as one of the original eight members who helped establish the Elwood V.F.W., where he remained a lifetime member.

On May 19, 1984, Larry married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Bolar. Larry worked for over 31 years as a tool crib attendant at Chrysler, retiring in 1996. He took pride in his work and in providing a loving home for his family.

Larry's passions extended beyond his service and career. He was a proud member of the American Legion, an avid bowler in local leagues, and a beloved figure known as the "Karaoke King." He found joy in fishing, holding the Indiana State Record for the largest white crappie for over 19 years. Above all, Larry cherished time spent with his grandchildren, finding his greatest happiness in the laughter and love of his family. Larry's legacy is one of service, strength, and unwavering love for his country and those dearest to him.

Larry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Virginia A. Denton of Elwood; 5 children, Tracy Denton of Tennessee, Melissa (Lennie) Kistler of Ohio, Beverly Parker of Colorado, Seth Bickel, and Wes Bickel; 5 grandchildren, Emily (Justin) Dillinger, Olivia (Clinton) McElroy, Lily MacCachran, Troy (Rae Jean) Denton, and Cory (Erika) Denton; 5 great-grandchildren; nephew, Chris (Loretta) Davis; and several extended family members and friends.  Larry is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Tina Davis.

Larry's wishes were to be cremated and have a private celebration of life at later date where he will be honored with military honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.  Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Larry's arrangements.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
