He was born September 20, 1950 in Elwood, the son of Fred and Annabelle B. (Hodge) Carpenter, Jr. Larry was a 1968 graduate of Tipton High School, and he had previously attended Elwood schools before high school. Larry liked to watch NASCAR races and was especially an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed being outdoors - gardening, fishing and going on numerous camping trips through the years. Larry liked to feed the birds in his yard and especially liked the finches and hummingbirds. He also liked to fly his drones and had a cherished train collection that he inherited from his father.
