Larry D. Blankenship, age 64 of Elwood, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on July 6, 1950, the son of Robert and Hazel (Rice) Blankenship. Larry retired in 1998 from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo where he worked for 28 years. He graduated from Wendell Willkie High School in Elwood in 1970, and later married Janet L. Dean on September 25, 1971. Larry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Elwood and the United Auto Workers Union #685 in Kokomo. He enjoyed fishing, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, gardening, camping, collecting coins, and baseball cards.
Larry's family includes wife of 43 years, Janet L. Blankenship of Elwood; 2 sons, Brian Blankenship of Northbrook, IL and Brent (Sally) Blankenship of Elwood; sister, Carol Mack of Arkansas; 2 brothers, Charles (Sherene) Blankenship of Largo, FL, and Keven (Tonya) Blankenship of Indianapolis; 2 grandchildren, Courtney Blankenship and Andrew Blankenship; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marcus Blankenship; and sister, Cherie Blankenship.
Funeral services celebrating Larry's life will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Mae Leech of the First Presbyterian Church and Pastor Jason Armes officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation for family and friends will take place from 2 to 6 PM on Friday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
