L. Dwight Wittkamper, age 86 of Anderson and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home after an extended illness. He was born February 16, 1928 in Madison County, the son of Joseph H. and Agnes L. (Mock) Wittkamper. He was a farmer for more than 30 years. He also formerly worked at Continental Can Corporation in Elwood for 13 years and retired from Red Gold, Inc. in 1993 after 9 years of service. He was a 1946 graduate of Elwood High School, and later attended Realtor's training in Indianapolis to become a Real Estate Broker. He was also a Beck's Seed salesman for several years. Dwight married Marilyn J. Himelick on March 27, 1949. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Alexandria, and formerly enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, RV trips, and cruise vacations. More than anything, Dwight loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
Dwight's family includes his wife of more than 65 years, Marilyn J. Wittkamper of Anderson; son, Terry (wife Marilyn) Wittkamper of Fairmount; daughter, Myra (husband John) Arthur of Anderson; 2 brothers, Ferrill (wife Joan) Wittkamper of Elwood and Marvin (wife Jill) Wittkamper of Ronda, NC; son-in-law; Bennie Wilhoite of Alexandria; 3 sisters-in-law, Emogene Wittkamper, Helen Wittkamper, Marla Wittkamper all of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, Ty Wittkamper, Aron (Becky) Wittkamper, Amber Magers, Angela (Dave) Beals, Shawn (Sara) Wilhoite, and Bradley (Miriam) Arthur; 8 great- grandchildren, Logan Magers, Gabby Wittkamper, Cooper Wittkamper, Caleb Beals, Reese Beals, Maciah Wilhoite, Jaxson Wilhoite, Aubrey Arthur, and another expected in January; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Nadine Wilhoite; 3 brothers, Loren Wittkamper, Maurice Wittkamper, and Eldon Wittkamper; and 2 sisters, Louise Jordan and Bernita Beiswanger.
A service celebrating Dwight's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Dwight's grandson, Rev. Bradley Arthur of Olivet Nazarene University officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the funeral home prior to the service.
