Obituary

L. Kay Austin , age 61 of Indianapolis, passed away Nov. 1, 2023 at Ascension / St. Vincent Hospital after a 10-month battle with health issues.  She was born March 12, 1962 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Glenn W. and Margery N. (Nicholson) Austin.  Kay was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis where Irvington was her childhood home.  She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and graduated from Lawrence Central High School.  After attending Franklin College, she worked for 36 years with Resort Condominiums International (RCI – now Wyndham Worldwide).  She loved I.U., vacations and dinners with friends, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, her family, and her pups.

Kay's family includes two sisters, Sharon Noland and DeeDee (Mark) Sigler; step-siblings, Bob (Dee) Greenman, Bill Greenman, and Elizabeth Greenman; nieces and nephews she loved dearly, Sean (Deidre) Hancook, Heather (Casey) Agresta, Amber (Chris) Cole, Adam Sigler, Bryce Greenman, and Brianna (Justin) Otwell; beloved great-nieces and nephews, Mallory Agresta, Adrienne Agresta, and Josie Agresta, Abby Deane, Jeremiah Evans, Sophie Cole, Karlee Cole, Hadley Cole, Austin Sigler, Ashtin Sigler, and Ava Sigler.  She is also survived by two pups, Coop and Weezy; and many special friends.  Kay was preceded in death by her father, Glenn W. Austin; mother and stepfather, Margery and Bob Greenman; brother, Gregory W. Austin; brothers-in-law, David Hancook and Mike Noland; special sister, Pam Collins; and many aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Kay's family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Michael Rowe of Indianapolis for his exceptional compassion and care; and also to Pastor Bob Preusz and his wife Nancy of Frankton for spiritual guidance and friendship.

In Anne Graham Lotz's devotion from Nov. 1st titled "Homecoming Day", she wrote:

"Rejoice because your names are written in Heaven."  (Luke 10;20, NKJV)

"When I know that my loved ones are coming home I begin to prepare for them.  My son loves barbecued spareribs on the grill and homemade apple pie.  I prepare those things for him, so that when he walks through the door of the house he knows he was expected and welcome, because this is his home!"

"Considering how I prepare for my children when I know they are coming home, I love to think of the preparations God is making for my homecoming one day.  He knows the colors I love, the scenery I enjoy, the things that make me happy.  All these personal details will let me know when I walk in My Father's House that I am expected and welcome because He has prepared it for me!  And in the same way, He is preparing a glorious homecoming for you!"

We know Kay's room in God's glorious Heaven is filled with family and friends she missed so very much, lots of dogs to love on, and great food – especially mom's goulash.

A funeral service celebrating Kay's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023 at Shirley Brothers – Irvington Chapel, 5377 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis with Pastor Bob Preusz of Community Church of Frankton, officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 pm prior to the funeral at Shirley Brothers Irvington Chapel, and Kay would prefer casual dress and I.U. colors.  Private Entombment will follow the services in Washington Park East Mausoleum.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Canine Assistance Network (www.icandog.org) or your favorite animal shelter.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and online condolences may be expressed at www.copherfeslermay.com.
