Obituary

Kyle M. Hibst, age 31 of Elwood, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 in Marion following a tragic airplane accident at the Marion Municipal Airport.  He was born on April 3, 1986 in Elwood, the son of Tim Hibst and Becky (Leeson) Hibst.  Kyle was the owner of Anytime Fitness in Elwood for the past 11 years and also an Area Field Manager for U-Haul.  He was a 2005 graduate of Elwood Community High School.  He married Kimberley M. Graham on June 22, 2013, and he was a proud father of his son, Grayson.  Kyle was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Elwood.  He was a volunteer fireman for Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department for 7 years, and was also honored to serve as an E.M.S. Chief and Treasurer of the department.  He loved flying his airplane; fishing and being out on the lake; and snow skiing with family – especially his son.  Kyle was an avid coin collector and was a devoted fan of Notre Dame Football.  Quietly and without attention, Kyle was very charitable and always willing to help others in need.  He will be remembered as an amazing husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, grandson, uncle, and friend.

Kyle's family includes his wife, Kimberley M. (Graham) Hibst of Elwood; son, Grayson Matthew Hibst at home; father, Frederick T. "Tim" Hibst of Elwood; mother, Rebecca  "Becky" (Leeson) Hibst of Elwood; paternal grandfather, Fred (wife Geri) Hibst of Elwood; father and mother-in-law, Dan and Shirley Graham of Elwood; 2 sisters, Kirsten Hibst of Indianapolis and Kacie Johns of Elwood; brother-in law, Allen (wife Cynthia) Graham of Oklahoma; 2 sisters-in law, Sally (husband Brent) Blankenship of Elwood and Kacie (husband Brandon) McCarty of Columbia City; 2 aunts, Becky Sue Lantz and Kelly Klinger; 4 uncles, Tim Leeson, Jon (wife Karen) Leeson, Matt (wife Melanie) Leeson, and Andy Leeson; 7 nieces, Courtney, Breona, Sydney, Mya, Abby, Chesney, and Cecily; 5 nephews, Tyler, Andrew, Elliott, Ayden, and Cobey; and several cousins, including his special cousin, Lindsay Leeson.

Kyle was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Norma Kiefer; maternal grandparents, David Leeson, Marian "Mitzi" Hood, and Charles Hood; his uncles, Phillip Hibst and Mike Hibst; and Kim's uncles, Tim Graham, and Jimmie Vice.

A funeral service celebrating Kyle's life and the life of David Wittkamper will be conducted together at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Elwood Jr. / Sr. High School Gymnasium in Elwood with Rev. Kal Rissman of St. John Lutheran Church and Rev. Josh Crockett, former pastor of Grace Baptist Church, officiating.  Full firefighter honors will be provided by the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department with assistance from numerous other local fire departments and agencies.  An Honor Guard from the Marion County Sheriff's Department will also be provided.  Cremation will occur following the service.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 to 9 pm on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grayson Hibst College Fund or the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.  Envelopes will be provided.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
