Ardith "Kaye" (Frazier) Johnson, age 73 of Holiday, Florida and formerly of Elwood, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Westminster Village North in Indianapolis following an extended illness. She was born July 30, 1939 in Elwood, the daughter of James W. and Ruby (Cooper) Frazier. She retired in 1994 as a Management Analyst at Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center in Indianapolis after 32 years of service. Kaye was a 1957 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood. She married Edward E. Johnson on July 8, 1988. She was formerly an active member and past-president of the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority in Elwood, and enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, visiting casinos, shopping, cooking, and oil painting. Her favorite TV shows were the Real Housewives series, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and Dancing with the Stars. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her family includes husband of 24 years, Edward E. Johnson of Holiday, FL; 4 children, Barbara Mortensen of Gilbert, AZ, Jeffrey (wife Laura) Compton of Orestes, Jennifer (husband Tony) Henn of Elwood, and Jim (wife Emily) Hudson of Elwood; 4 step-children, Edward Johnson, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Joel (wife Leann) Johnson of McCordsville, Scott Johnson of Knoxville, TN, and Shelbi (husband Joey) Stevenson of Noblesville; 3 brothers, Victor Frazier, Kit (wife Margaret) Frazier, and Jeff (wife Debbie) Frazier all of Elwood; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; special friends, Thearl Goodrich, Deanna Griffin, and Brenda Thurman; and several nieces and nephews.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Vernon Joe Compton; and sister, Sherry McPhearson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Edsel Joyner of the Orestes Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
