Katharine Diane Ake, age 34, of Greenfield, IN passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born June 27, 1992 in Indianapolis to Christen D. Peters. Katharine was a 2011 graduate of Greenfield Central High School and attended Indiana University. On November 8, 2024 she married the love of her life, Xavier Ake. Their beautiful daughter, Saoirse Ann Ake, was born January 31, 2025 and filled her heart with love and joy.
Katharine was the best Momma, doting on Saoirse and taking pride in her every expression, sound and new word. She certainly made the most of the time they had together. They packed in visits to Conner Prairie, the Indiana State Fair, Build-A-Bear, The Indianapolis Zoo, Tuttle Orchard, Smiley Indoor Play Place and the Riley Park pool. They also took frequent walks down the street to a local playground where Saoirse giggled with every swing push and trip down the slides.
Katharine was the kind of friend who would do anything for you. She loved friends and family fiercely and deeply and was that rare individual who somehow stayed in contact with those who touched her life. Katharine also had a heart for animals having had cats, dogs, fish, hamsters, chickens and a lizard - rescuing many who now miss her terribly. Katharine also volunteered for 2 years at a farm animal sanctuary, often plotting to find a way to add a goat, sheep or donkey to the back yard.
Survivors include her husband, Xavier Ake of Greenfield; daughter, Saoirse Ann Ake; mother, Christen D. Peters of Greenfield; aunt, Audrey “ReeRee” L. Peters of Indianapolis; “bubby”, Henry Peters-Gomez of Indianapolis; uncle & aunt, Jason D. and Susan Peters of Kokomo; special cousin, Elizabeth Peters of Elwood; and cousins, Nathan Peters of Colorado, Luke Peters of Cicero and Amelia Peters of Noblesville; special friend, Aaron Hutchinson of Anderson; her parents-in-law, Fern & Chrysa Ake of Zionsville; and many other loving family and friends.
Katharine was predeceased by her grandparents, Thomas D. and Diane Peters of Logansport; childhood friend, Kayla McFadden; and pets who meant the world to her, most recently her big boy Oliver James.
A graveside funeral mass celebrating Katharine’s life will take place at 12:30 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood with Father Adam Mauman of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elwood. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm prior to the service on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. The family asks that nobody wear black to the funeral, please come in something summer casual, as that is what Katharine would have wanted.
