Karleen Walker, age 82 of Windfall, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Miller's Merry Manor in Tipton following extended illnesses. She was born August 18, 1931 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, the daughter of John and Juel (Todd) Pugh. She worked at her family's lumber business as a young person and was a proud 1949 graduate of Windfall High School. Karleen later graduated from the Elkhart Business School in 1950 before marrying Richard D. Walker on February 14, 1951. She worked at the Tipton County Welfare Office and was then the treasurer for Tri-Central Community Schools. Karleen was a devoted and active member of the Windfall Christian Church and was a Past Matron of the Windfall Order of Eastern Star.
Karleen is survived by a granddaughter, Kayla Walker of Texas; two cousins, Jim Carter of Carmel and Betty Wright of Florida; and special friends, Murlea Anderson of Greentown and Jeffrey Griffin of Windfall. She was blessed by many friends who were also her caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Richard D. Walker who died February 17, 2005; and 2 sons, John Ray Walker who died April 25, 2012, and an infant son who died at birth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 23, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Carl Roudebush of the Windfall Christian Church officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Brookside Cemetery in Windfall. In lieu of flowers, Karleen has requested that donations be made to the Windfall Christian Church, P.O. Box 126, Windfall, IN 46076 or through the funeral home.
