Joyce E. Call , age 85 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born February 16, 1936 in Elwood, the daughter of Clarence Greenstreet and Doris (Hicks) Tidwell. Joyce attended Chaffey High School in California and later obtained her diploma from Wendell L. Willkie High School with the gracious help of Carol Courtney. She was a homemaker all of her life and also formerly worked at Harvest Market for 10 years. Joyce married the love of her life, Ralph B. Call, on April 27, 1954, and they shared over 53 years of marriage together until his passing is 2007. She was a member of Main Street Wesleyan Church and became a member of the one and only "Glory Sisters." The "Glory Sisters" included Darlene, Marie, Shirley, Phyllis, Lucy, Lana, and Joyce. This group of women enjoyed dining out together, adventures on numerous memorable trips, and attending church together. Joyce and Ralph enjoyed traveling all over and had many vacations in Hawaii, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, and Arkansas. When her children were younger, she especially loved spending weekends at the lakes with all of her friends. She also liked to care for her flower garden and enjoyed planting all different types of rose bushes through the years. Joyce was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Cubs who she always referred to as "her Cubbies." She was an excellent cook and baker and was known for making her delicious pot roast and Grandma Hick's banana bread. Joyce went on numerous shopping trips with Barbara French, and she loved fishing trips with Madonna Diko. She enjoyed spending time with her sister, Joan Sturm and they would took turns staying at each other's homes and had great times at Lake Manitou. More than anything, Joyce loved spending time with her family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joyce's family includes her daughter, Debra (Jim) Derrickson of Elwood; son, Kenneth "Butch" Call of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, Andrew B. Smith, Matthew Leffert, Curtis McClish, Chelsea (husband Tyler) Walker, Shawnna Derrickson, and Lawrence Call; 4 great-grandchildren, Madelyn Smith, Chloe Smith, Lilly McClish, and Theo Walker; sister-in-law, Lorene Call of Evansville; special sister, Joan Sturm of Avon; special granddaughter, Amy Noone-Smith of Elwood; special cat, "Sophie"; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Call; son, Mark Call; 2 brothers, Eugene Greenstreet and Leroy Bradburn; and a sister, Linda.
A funeral service celebrating Joyce's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Joe Collier officiating. Burial will follow in K. of P. – I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Frankton. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday prior to the service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Health precautions for the safety of the family and visitors will include wearing face coverings and social distancing.
