Obituary

John R. McFerran , age 84 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 18, 2025 surrounded by his family at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.  He was born on March 4, 1941 in Alexandria the son of John F. and Catherine (Tuerffs) McFerran.  John was a 1960 graduate of Alexandria High School, and following graduation he proudly served in the United States Army.  On February 25, 1961, he married his beloved wife, Doris (Heartbarger) McFerran.  He retired from General Motors in 1999, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  John enjoyed many trips to Patoka Lake, hunting, and fishing with his children and grandchildren.  He also liked playing cards and working with his hands.  John especially cherished his 57 years of marriage to his wife, Doris, with whom he has now been reunited.

John is survived by his sons, Bradly (Lisa) McFerran, Scott (Michelle) McFerran, and Greg (Michelle) McFerran; 5 grandchildren, Kyle (Lisa) McFerran, Jessica (Pete) Stirn, Taylor McFerran, Morgan (Andy) Loudenback, and Trent McFerran; 8 great-grandchildren, Bradlee Stirn, Tripp Stirn, Bailey McFerran, Harper Loudenback, William McFerran, Camden Loudenback, Cosette Stirn, and Theodore McFerran; and several nieces and nephews.  John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris McFerran; brother, Jerry McFerran; and 2 sisters, Patti King, and Rosie Moore.

A funeral mass celebrating John's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood with Father Adam Mauman officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood with military honors by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W.  There will be no public visitation.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic Church through the funeral home.  John's arrangements are entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
