John K. Chambers , age 75 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family after health complications.  He was born August 11, 1947 in Elwood, the son of Carl W. and Mary C. (Glass) Chambers.  John attended Elwood schools.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator for I.M.I. Corporation for 44 years, and retired in 2011.  John married Barbara F. Caldwell on January 29, 1966, and they shared over 56 years of marriage together.

John was a hardworking man who enjoyed keeping busy and will be remembered as an excellent provider for his family.  In free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Civil War and Native American history.  More than anything, John's family was the most important aspect of his life; and he will be deeply missed.

Johns' family legacy includes his wife, Barbara Chambers of Elwood; 4 children, Tammy (Jeff) Noland of Elwood, Angie "Jo" Wilkerson of Elwood, Trina Whisman of Elwood, and Brian Chambers (Abby Hu) of Elwood; two sisters, Carolyn Tomlinson of Elwood and Kathy (Terry) Raquet of Texas; 6 grandchildren, Rachael, Cody, Jeffrey (Kristin), Chris (Myra), Kogan (Laura), and Catherine (Kason); 11 great-grandchildren, Kenlee, Westen, Aubree, Jaxten, Paislee, Saint, Graham, Donavon, Kymber, JC, and Piper; longtime friend, Jack Schimel; beloved 4-legged companion, "Cricket"; and several nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Larry Chambers and Janie Angel; son-in-law, Ron Whisman; and good friend, Jon McPhearson.

A life celebration visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2022 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood followed by informal sharing by family and friends at 7 pm.  Cremation will follow the services.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Animal Shelter.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
