Joann McGill Frazee, age 97, of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood after a long and well-lived life. She was born on September 16, 1928, in Hamilton County, Indiana, the daughter of Wilbur and Ruby (Retherford) McGill. Joann was a 1946 graduate of Elwood High School. On April 12, 1947, she married the love of her life, Gerald Frazee, and together they raised a loving family until his passing in 1987. Joann was a devoted Christian woman and a faithful member of Grace Community Church in Elwood, where her faith was the foundation of her life. She worked at Kroger as a cashier for 18 years and was a proud member of the Eastern Star for 75 years. Joann enjoyed shopping, sewing, cooking, and caring for her home. Above all, she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and a woman whose Christian faith touched all who knew her.
Joann is survived by 2 children, Jodee (Jeff) Fulton of Frankton, and Samuel Frazee; 2 grandchildren, Autumn Childers, and Amanda Faulstich; 1 great-grandson, Bentley Faulstich; and several nieces and nephews. Joann is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald Frazee; 2 brothers, Rober McGill, and William McGill; and her daughter, Sandra Buttler.
Joann’s family would like to thank the Elwood Health and Living staff for their love and care they showed Joann.
A funeral service celebrating Joann’s life will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Bill Johnston of Grace Community Church officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Community Church. The family has asked that you please dress casually to the service, as Joann would not care what anyone was wearing, but rather that you were there.
