Joan Meyer, age 90 – a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood following an extended illness. She was born on December 22, 1922 in Elwood, the daughter of Paul C. and Frances (McCan) Summers. Joan was a Homemaker and Farmwife most of her life, and raised 11 children. She also formerly worked in the office of Continental Can Corporation in Elwood. She was a 1940 graduate of Elwood High School, and later graduated from Fort Wayne Business College. She married John Robert "Bob" Meyer on May 6, 1944. Joan was a member of the "Mix & Fix" Home Economics Club and a former member of the Madison County Home Extension Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and playing the piano. Most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Joan's surviving family includes 10 children, Mick (wife Suzanne) Meyer of Atlanta, Dan (wife Cindy) Meyer of Elwood, Sue (husband Kenneth) Clouser of Noblesville, Jack (wife Jane) Meyer of Payne, OH, Becky (husband Randy) Robinson of Muncie, Mary (husband Carl) Kidd of Muncie, Judy Speer of Elwood, Peggy (husband Ted) Bryan of Anderson, Barbara (husband Don) Pine of Elwood, and Beth (husband John) Moser of Elwood; sister, Phyllis Geren of Cicero; daughter-in-law, Mary Meyer of Syracuse; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, John Robert "Bob" Meyer who died January 15, 2003; 2 sons, Gary Meyer and Steven Meyer; and brother, Max Summers.
At Joan's request, funeral services will be private at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home with Rev. Cindy Osgood officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.
