Obituary

Jerry Edda (Hankley) Skoczylas , age 85 of Noblesville and formerly of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at her residence following a brief illness. Born February 6, 1940, in Tipton, she was the daughter of Eldon and Norma Jean (Bristow) Hankley. Jerry attended Wendell L. Willkie High School. She gracefully provided for her family by working at Excello, and after its closing, continued her dedication in production at ELSA until 2002. Jerry was a member of Central Wesleyan Church in Elwood.

She had an elegant touch for decorating and delighted in thoughtfully changing the interior design of her home, always ensuring every detail was just right. Jerry took great pride in caring for the outside of her home as well, and was especially honored to receive the "Home Pride Award." Her flower garden was always immaculate—a true reflection of her care and creativity. Jerry enjoyed crocheting and cherished time spent with her beloved dogs. She treasured family moments, from Saturday night game nights to supporting her grandchildren's many activities. Jerry's home was always warm, welcoming, and beautifully kept, a testament to her love for order and beauty. Above all, Jerry will be remembered as a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother, and sister, whose gentle spirit touched everyone around her.

Jerry is survived by 3 children, Tim (Terry Karlin) Smith of Noblesville, Christy Moody of Elwood, and Greg (Priscilla) Smith of Bluffton; 2 sisters, Jodi Loar of Elwood, and Patti (Joe) Miller of Elwood; 2 sisters-in-law, Roberta Hankley of Elwood, and Monna Hunt of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Gregory Smith, Jr., Chasica Atwood, Stefanie (Ryan) Columbus, Amanda (Sean) Anderson, and Mikayla Moody; 8 great-grandchildren; special dog, "Puggy"; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry is preceded in death by her parents; son, Denny "Mitch" Smith; brother-in-law, Tom Loar; grandson, Michael Frazier; 2 brothers, Mike Hankley, and Bill Hunt; life partner, Larry Jones; and special dog, "Sammy".

Jerry's wishes were to be cremated and have a private family inurnment at a later date at Elwood City Mausoleum.  Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood is honored to handle Jerry's arrangements.  In memory of Jerry's love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Animal Shelter.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
