Jeffrey L. Brewer, age 64 of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Community Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness. He was born November 2, 1951 in Elwood, the son of Jack Brewer and Barbara L. (Watson) Snipes. Jeff was a 1969 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood and attended Ball State University. He later graduated from the Indiana Police Academy and entered into a law enforcement career. He retired in 2007 from the Madison County Sheriff's Department after 26 years of service. While with the sheriff's department, he was instrumental in the Horse Patrol and the Honor Guard team. He worked with the Madison County court offices, transports department, jail investigations, and was a well-known training officer for new officers. Jeff was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood. He enjoyed fishing, and especially enjoyed fishing in Canada on numerous trips. He also enjoyed traveling and made trips to Germany to visit a friend and fellow police officer. He also had been involved in mission trips to Mexico. Jeff was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching his favorite gameshow - Jeopardy. More than anything, Jeff was proud of his career in law enforcement, and he will be greatly missed by many.
Jeff's family includes his mother, Barbara L. (Watson) Snipes of Elwood; father, Jack Brewer of Knoxville, TN; sister, Karen (husband Dennis) Whitacre of Anderson; step-siblings, Steve (wife Kimberly) Snipes of Sheridan, Linda (husband Dan) Kleinman of Sharpsville, and Tim (wife Erin) Coston of Charleston, SC.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank & Estella Watson and Hillard & Leatha Brewer; step-father, Calvin "Fred" Snipes; step-mother, Joan Brewer; and step-brother, Gary Snipes.
A funeral service celebrating Jeff's life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. The Madison County Sheriff's Department will provide an honor guard and escort for the family. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Friday.
