Jeanne K.
Hockema
Dec 31, 1948 — Feb 4, 2017
Jeanne K. Hockema, age 68 of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at her home at Edgewater Woods in Anderson following a brief illness. She was born on December 31, 1948 in Anderson, the daughter of Thomas K. Hockema and Ruth Caroline (Buck) Woodyard. Disabled since birth, every day was like Christmas for Jeanne. She was never a person to turn down pizza and Diet Pepsi, and she thoroughly enjoyed shopping and dining. A visit to Steak-N-Shake was more like a field trip for Jeanne as she would eat each, ketchup-coated french fry one at a time. She had a bellowing laugh, a flair for jewelry, and loved children and animals. Fondly referred to as "Princess" by the staff, Jeanne was a popular figure at her Edgewater Woods home where she frequently stood watch in her wheelchair over the nursing station. Jeanne adored her loving "sister" and guardian who always looked out for her needs and well-being. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.)
Kerry wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the many staff members at Edgewater Woods of Anderson for their love and care of Jeanne in her later years.
Jeanne's family includes her brother, Thomas B. (wife Tina) Hockema of Pendleton; sister and guardian, Kerry (husband David) Kane of Elwood; nieces and nephews, Trent (Rachel) Marsh, Melissa (James) Brooks, Laura Kane (Fiance' Kogan Wilkerson), Amy Hockema (fiance' Jeff Belter), and Matt Hockema. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas K. Hockema; mother, Ruth Caroline Woodyard; and step-father, Dave Woodyard.
Cremation will occur, and Jeanne's remains will be joined with her mother at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson at a later date. Services to remember and celebrate Jeanne's life will be conducted privately at a later date. Memorial contributions are welcomed in Jeanne's memory to the Elwood Animal Rescue Shelter, c/o Elwood City Clerk's Office, 1505 South B Street, Elwood, IN 46036. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.Visits: 0
