Janice E. Terwilliger, age 92 of Elwood, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after a brief illness. She was born March 10, 1922 in Elwood, the daughter of Harvey and Sofrona (Slater) Terwilliger. Janice retired in 1988 after serving as a missionary in Quitto, South America for more than 40 years and working for many years at the HCJB radio mission. She was a 1940 graduate of Tipton High School and later earned her Bachelor's Degree. Janice was a devoted member of Southside Community Church in Elwood. Correspondence was important to her and she was an avid letter-writer. She was fluent in Spanish, enjoyed reading, and studying the Bible.
Janice's family includes her sister, Blythe B. Terwilliger of Elwood; nephew, Jay (wife Beverly) Terry of Wisconsin; great-niece, Angeline; and 3 great-nephews, Jay, Jr, Christopher, and Bradley. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Verland W. Terwilliger.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Bill Abresch officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the HCJB Radio Mission through the funeral home.
