Obituary

James K. Whetstone, age 63 of Brownsburg and formerly of Elwood, died February 9, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born March 10, 1947 in Elwood, Indiana. He worked for 23 years in production for Guide Lamp and retired in 1995. He was a 1965 graduate of Wendell Willkie High School. He married Joann O. Bryant on December 31, 1966. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union #663. He was an avid sports fan - especially of the New York Yankees and the Indiana Pacers. His greatest joy was watching his son and grandsons play sports.

Survivors include: Mother – Harriett (Purvis) Morris of Elwood; Wife – Joann O. Whetstone of Brownsburg; Son – Jamie K. Whetstone of Brownsburg; Brother – Jerry and Charlene Veerkamp of Tipton; Sister – Ann Whetstone of Berne; 3 Grandsons – Dylan Whetstone, Mycah Whetstone, and Tyler Whetstone all of Brownsburg; 2 Brothers-in-Law – Roger (Diana) Bryant of Noblesville and Dale (Shirley) Bryant of Shelbyville; and Several Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by: Father – Gerald Whetstone; Grandparents – Everett and Emma Whetstone, and Paul and Marie Purvis.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Neal Brown of the Omega Christian Church officiating. Burial will take place in Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
