Obituary

James Harrison "Jim" Scott, age 61 of Anderson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023 at Community Hospital in Anderson after a long battle with Huntington's Disease.  He was born Oct. 15, 1962 in Elwood, the son of Bennie J. Scott and Melany Lou (Tyner) Scott-Williams.  Jim was a 1980 graduate of Elwood Community High School.  He started working for Vectren Gas Company in Elwood as a dispatcher and later became a supervising engineer in the Noblesville office.  He retired in 2006 after 23 years of service with Vectren due to his health.  Jim loved watching old movies, "I Love Lucy" shows, antiquing, and vintage cars.  His family was the most important thing in the world to him, and they are comforted knowing he has been reunited with his parents and brother in Heaven.

Jim's family includes his partner of over 30 years, Larry Beard of Anderson; 3 siblings, Donita Conyers of Muncie, Rustee Scott (Joe Gutierrez) of Plainfield, and Dean "Dino" Balser (Carrie Troup) of Swayzee; step-mother, Gilda Scott of Muncie; 9 nieces and nephews, Matthew (Jennifer) Barrett of Anderson, Benjamin Barrett (Jessica Beemer) of Anderson, Cameron Balser of Marion, Chantelle Balser (Jacob Miller) of New Whitley, Kayla Balser (Josh Thompson) of Converse, Garrett (Marissa) Balser of Elkhart, Gracen (Hayden) Schmucker of Goshen, Ashlyn Gutierrez of Plainfield, and Gabriel Gutierrez of Plainfield; 5 great-nieces and nephews; and adopted mother-in-law, Doris Sarver of Anderson.  Jim was preceded in death by both his parents; 2 brothers, Gary Balser and Bennie Scott; brother-in-law, Ken Conyers; and adopted father-in-law, John Sarver.

A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Wynn Stenftenagel of the First United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial of his ashes will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 am to 1 pm prior to the memorial service on Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Huntington's Foundation through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
