Jackie Jean
Copus
Jan 25, 1943 — Jun 28, 2017
Jackie J. Copus, age 74 of Elwood, passed away on June 28, 2017 at Community Hospital Anderson following a brief diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis. She was born January 25, 1943 in Tipton, the daughter of Ambrose and Ruby (Meadows) Netherton. Jackie worked as a machine operator at Firestone Corporation in Noblesville for over 30 years, and retired in 1998. She attended Tipton schools. Jackie married Charles Lee Copus, Sr. on January 13, 1966 and they shared over 51 years of marriage together. She was formerly a member of the United Steelworkers Union, and worked at the Elwood General Dollar store for many years after retirement from Firestone. Jackie enjoyed crocheting, swinging on the front porch, camping, watching birds, and crappie fishing with Charles for many years. She also enjoyed cooking, working puzzles, coloring, and formerly bowled in local bowling leagues. More than anything, she was devoted to her family and was a friend to everyone she met – always willing to help others any way she could. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Jackie's family includes husband of 51 years, Charles L. Copus, Sr. of Elwood; 2 daughters, Sherry (husband George) Call-Skeen of Anderson and Carla (husband Trent) McPhearson of Elwood; 3 sons, Charles Copus, Jr. of Elwood, Russell Copus of Anderson, and Jeff (wife Alisha) Copus of Elwood; 5 brothers, James, Truman, Larry, Terry, and Butch; 7 sisters, Bunia Bell, Opal, Deloris, Alien, Debbie, Diana, and Darlene; 8 grandchildren, Chelsea Call, Lawrence Call, Kristi Castle, Michael (wife Rachel) McPhearson, Bailey Copus, Tracer (wife Ashley) Towner, Tyce Towner, and Sadie Copus; 3 great-grandchildren, Mathew Castle, Jadalynn Castle, and Rowan McPhearson; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family members. Jackie was preceded in death by both her parents, several siblings, and a beloved cat, "Baby".
