Jack W. Gallatin, age 80 of Elwood, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born June 12, 1932 in Casey, IL, the son of John A. "Pete" and Freda D. "Dee" (Sharp) Gallatin. He was a fork truck driver for Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo for 30 years and retired in 1992. He was a 1951 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Jack married Shirley Ann Whitehead on March 25, 1956. He was a member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368, the United Auto Workers Union, and the Elwood V.F.W. Post #5782. Jack was also a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge in Elwood, and especially proud to be a member of the Shriners Club. He was a founding member of the Elwood youth football league, and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann (Whitehead) Gallatin of Elwood; 2 children, Katherine (Kenneth) Giselbach of Elwood, and Susan (David) Sizelove of Elwood; 2 brothers, Ronald (Sara) Gallatin of Elwood, and Roger (Carole) Gallatin of Madison; 6 grandchildren, Dana (John) Moses, Camaron (Jeremy) Hood, Kevin (Lorena) Giselbach, Corey (Mariam) Frazier, Arvid Frazier, and Chelsea Sizelove; 6 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Moses, Anna Moses, Zachary Hood, Matthew Hood, Cloi Frazier, and Kori Joy Frazier; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a twin brother, Jean Gallatin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 PM Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev Josh Carney of the Elwood First Missionary Baptist Church officiating with military honors performed by the U.S. Military and the Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, and will include a 7:00 PM Masonic Lodge Memorial Service. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elwood City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Madison County Humane Society through the funeral home.
