Jack L. Dowler, age 82 of Farmland and formerly of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Ball Hospital / I.U. Health in Muncie following an extended illness. He was born December 17, 1936 in Mineral, Ohio, the son of Jesse and Nora (Taylor) Dowler. Jack married the love of his life, Betty Mae Gwinn on June 17, 1957, and they shared over 44 years of marriage together until her passing on June 21, 2001. He most recently worked for Woods Wire Company in Carmel for 10 years and retired in 1989. He also formerly worked at Ex-Cello Corporation in Elwood for several years. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a golden glove boxer while enlisted in the military. He former attended the United Christian Church in South Elwood with his wife. Jack loved to spend time outdoors - camping, fishing, and playing all types of sports with the kids. He was avid fan of Cincinnati Bengals football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He especially loved horses and enjoyed reading. More than anything, Jack was a loving father and grandfather; and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jack's family includes 6 children, Jonathan (Gail) Dowler of Elwood, Nora (D.J.) Dye of Thorntown, Jerry (Karen) Dowler of Winchester, Jack Dowler, Jr. of Farmland, Chris (Tina) Dowler of Elwood, and Geneva (Steven) Lane of Marion; sister, Vera (Terry) Morris of Elwood; 2 step-sisters, Kitty and Janie; close cousin, John (Donna) Bolin of Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by both his parents; wife, Betty Dowler; 3 siblings, Betty McCormick, Sarah Cobb, and Lawrence Emerson Dowler; and grandson, Jacob Dowler.
A funeral service celebrating Jack's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jack Bess officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Monday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
