Obituary

Harriett Horine, age 90 of Elwood, died Tuesday December 25, 2012 at her home after a brief illness. She was born June 4, 1922 in Grant County, the daughter of William and Molly Elizabeth (Jamison) Lamb. Harriett retired from Sears in Marion where she worked as a division manager for 20 years. She was a 1940 graduate of Union Township High School in Howard County. She married Willard F. Horine on October 17, 1942. Harriett was a devoted member of the Rigdon United Methodist Church, where she served as Lay Leader for 51 years and was President of the United Methodist Women. She also served as District Leader for the United Methodist Women for 8 years. Harriett served as the sexton of the Forrestville Cemetery for 19 years and was an active member of the Home Demonstration Club of Madison County for over 4 years. Harriett and her husband enjoyed traveling, and had visited many countries all over the world. She especially enjoyed canning fresh vegetables from her garden, reading, and journaling every day.

Harriett's family includes 3 sons, Stephen (wife Cinda) Horine of Summitville, Stanley Horine of Roanoke, Stuart (wife Teresa) Horine of Marion; 3 sisters-in-law, Mary Horine of Upland, Dortha Horine of Wabash, and Donnis Dawes of Grinnell, Iowa; brother-in-law, Rev. William Abresch of Frankton; 6 grandchildren, Brett, Heather, Matthew, Jessica, Robert and Dustin; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of nearly 61 years, Willard F. Horine ; 3 brothers, Joe Lamb, George Lamb and Chris Lamb; 5 sisters, Sally Riddell, Mary Bowlin, Lillian Chandler, Susie Abresch and Nettie Bean.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Saturday December 29, 2012 at the Rigdon United Methodist Church in Rigdon with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Knox Chapel Cemetery in Fairmount. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM Friday December 28, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
