Obituary

Harold Edward "Ed" VanNess, age 77 of Elwood, joined his beloved wife in Heaven on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. His wife, Bonnie J. (Hinds) VanNess, age 80 of Elwood, also recently passed away on June 12, 2014 after a very sudden illness. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1958, and shared 56 years of marriage.

Ed was born on April 4, 1937 in Elwood, the son of Harold W. and Elenora "Ruth" (Taylor) VanNess. He attended Elwood schools, and went to work at Continental Can Corporation in Elwood as a forklift driver where he worked for 30 years, and retired in 1984. Ed formerly enjoyed traveling, camping, visiting casinos, and working in his yard. He especially enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching current news on television.

Bonnie was born on September 22, 1933 in Elwood, the daughter of Norman F. and Sarah K. (Shaw) Hinds. She was a 1951 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School and later graduated from Ball State University. She taught school briefly and retired from General Cage Corporation where she had worked for more than 25 years as a secretary. She was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority, Sigma Kappa Sorority, and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

Ed and Bonnie were devoted parents and grandparents, and leave behind a legacy of family members which includes 2 daughters, Kathy (husband Greg) Fettig of Elwood and Andrea (husband Jerry) Isenhower of Fishers; 6 grandchildren, Brent, Eric, Taylor, Colin (wife Kayla), and Ellie Fettig, and Rachael Isenhower; 4 great-grandchildren, Lexie Fettig, Sarah Isenhower, Logan Fettig, and Mason Fettig; Bonnie's brother, Robert (wife Letha) Hinds and brother-in-law, John Hofer; and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tim VanNess. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Laurel "Jo" Hofer.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood with Pastor Jeff Haill of the Solid Rock Ministry officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
