Obituary

Harlan L. "Skip" Mohler, age 81 of Elwood, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his residence.  He was born on October 23, 1935 in Yorktown, the son of Charles and Nellie (Writtenhouse) Mohler.  Skip retired in 2003 from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) where he worked as a Security Guard for several years.  He was also formerly a production manager for the Coca-Cola Company in Muncie and former pastor of the Curtisville Baptist Church in Curtisville.  Skip was a 1953 graduate of Muncie High School, and later served his country in the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean War.  Later in life, he studied to become a licensed pastor.  He married Carolyn (Brown) Caldwell on March 1, 2003, and they shared 14 years of marriage together.  Skip was currently an active member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Phlox, and had a deep faith in the Lord.  He was known for loving gospel music, singing, and whistling various hymns.  He was a member of the Windfall 50+ Club and was a very active person.  He and Carolyn enjoyed working together as sorters at Pioneer Seed Co. in Tipton for several years.  Skip also loved animals of all kinds, and especially enjoyed caring for his yard and property.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Skip's family includes his wife, Carolyn (Brown-Caldwell) Mohler of Elwood; 2 sons, Charles (wife Brenda) Mohler of Daytona Beach, FL and Greg Mohler (fiance' Trina Wisel) of Angola; 2 step-children, Cindy (husband Rick) Elston of Bluffton, and Nick (wife Genie) Butler of Jonesboro; step daughter-in-law, Lori Butler of Elwood; siblings, Winola Goad of Yorktown, Wilma (husband Mike) Cope of Muncie, Vicky (husband Ray) Findley of Muncie, and Rick (wife Mary Ann) Mohler of Greenfield; 4 grandchildren, Charles "Beau", Grant, Garrett, and Miranda; 2 great-grandchildren, Tripp and Victoria; 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley (husband Keith) Hernley of Farmland and Nancy (husband Harold) Jenkins of Winchester; and several step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald L. Mohler; sister, Dora Campbell; 4 brothers, Bill Mohler, Hilbert Mohler, Vollie Mohler, and Jim Mohler; step-sons, Randy Butler and Terry Butler; and a step-grandchild

A funeral service celebrating Skip's life will be conducted at 12 pm on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor James Sharber of Cedar Grove Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Marion National Cemetery in Marion next to his son, and will include military honors by the U.S. Army and V.F.W. Honor Guard team.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday prior to the funeral service at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cedar Grove Baptist Church through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
