Gordon E. "Butch" Jackman, age 72 of Elwood, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at his residence following complications of COPD and a brief illness. He was born March 9, 1943 in Anderson, the son of George and Margaret (Shelton) Jackman. Butch retired from General Motors Corporation Truck and Bus Plant as a machine repairman after 16 years of service. He also formerly worked at Airfoil Textron (Ex-Cello) in Elwood for 26 years as a production setup person. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, an avid car enthusiast and car collector, and enjoyed fishing. More than anything, Butch loved spending time with his family and his beloved dogs, Rascal and Biscuit.
Butch's family includes his wife, Jerri L. (Beach) Jackman whom he married in 2012 of Elwood; 5 children, Greg (wife Gina) Jackman of Elwood, Christy (husband John) Gladin of Rincon, GA, Lisa (husband Rod) McMinn of Elwood, Nicole (husband David) Jameson of Frankton, and Jake Hobbs of Elwood; 2 brothers, Robert (wife Sue) Jackman of Mooresville, and Chuck (wife Mary) Jackman of Iowa; 2 sisters, Peggy (husband Sam) Leonard of Arkansas, and Carolyn (husband Tom) McCarthy of Black Oak; 7 grandchildren, Dustin (wife Sarah) Clouser, Kirk (wife Wendy) Gladin, Sarah Jackman (boyfriend Andy Kiddor), Scott Jackman (girlfriend Toni Kontos), Justin Jameson, Raegan Jameson, and Joey McMinn; 8 great-grandchildren and another expected in 2015; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Doris "Joyce" Jackman whom he married in 1961 and passed away in 2012; step-mother, Anna Jackman; 4 brothers, Jim Jackman, Ervin Jackman, Sam Jackman, and Ralph Jackman; sister, Clara Mae Wines.
A funeral service celebrating Butch's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Jim Stout of the Joy Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
