Obituary

Gloria Ellen "Ellie" Hobson , age 71 of Yorktown and formerly of Elwood, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at her home after a brief illness.  She was born May 1, 1951 in Muncie, Indiana.  Gloria graduated in the class of 1969 from Muncie High School, and later graduated from Ball State University with Bachelors and Master's Degrees in teaching.  She married John "Pat" Hobson on July 14, 1972, and they shared 50 years of marriage and adventures of all sorts together.  After the birth of her grandson, Gloria retired in 2001 from Elwood Community School Corporation where she worked as a teacher in the kindergarten and elementary schools for 18 years.

She was a member of the Modern Mystics Home Economics Club for many years.  Gloria enjoyed sewing, and was also active in the Pins & Needles Sewing Club.  She and Pat also loved traveling and had visited Alaska, Hawaii, Rome, Europe, the Caribbean, Belize, Honduras, and many U.S. states on unforgettable trips as well as numerous trips to Texas to visit family.  Gloria was known for being talented in making jewelry and especially earrings in her free time.  She and her daughter also enjoyed a variety of concert experiences together, and attended their last concert in June which will never be forgotten.  More than anything, Gloria's family and grandson were the highlight of her life.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gloria's family legacy includes her husband, Pat Hobson of Yorktown; daughter, Rebeka Smith of Muncie; grandson, Michael Smith (Payton Reingardt) of Tipton; "bonus" son, Stacey Hufnagel of Muncie; brother-in-law, Bill (Sheila) Hobson of Elwood; sister-in-law, Jeanie Hobson of Elwood; cousin, Susan Jo Thomas (Annette Butler) of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.  Gloria was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Helen Hobson; great-aunt, Joey Kincaid; niece, Diane Conner; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hoffman; and brother-in-law, Sonny Hobson.

Gloria was adamant that there be no funeral when she passed, but rather a celebration of her life at a later date following cremation.  Her wishes were to have her ashes scattered in a happy place near the beach in North Carolina where her family vacationed extensively.  Gloria's cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Heart of Hoosierland Humane Society through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.
