Glenn C. Skillman, age 87, of Alexandria and formerly of Elwood, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 surrounded by his family at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness. He was born April 23, 1929 in Elwood, the son of Oakley and Doris (Cowley) Skillman. Glenn retired in 1988 from the Delco Remy division of General Motors in Anderson where he worked as a utility man for 38 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Frankton High School. He married the love of his life, Eunice "Maureen" Sullivan on August 5, 1950 and they spent more than 65 years of marriage together. He was a lifelong and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood, and a member of the UAW #662. Glenn formerly enjoyed golfing at the Yule Golf course in Alexandria where they lived adjacent to the course. He was dedicated to attending all of his family's sporting events and functions. Glenn was also an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan. More than anything, Glenn will be remembered for his love and devotion to all of his family.
Glenn's family includes his wife of over 65 years, Maureen Skillman of Alexandria; 3 sons, Bill (wife Susan) Skillman of Ft. Myers, FL, Mike (wife Kathy) Skillman of Bolivia, NC, and Jim (wife Carol) Skillman of Belleaire Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, Kelly (husband Todd) Sarratt, Kourtney (husband Jared) Sells, Ben Skillman, Andy (wife Jayme) Skillman, and Eric Skillman; 2 great-grandchildren, Maxton Sells and Caleb Skillman; sister, Jane Ann Caldwell of Anderson; sister-in-law, Anita Skillman; and several nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Eugene Skillman, Marvin Skillman, and Walter Skillman; and 2 sisters, Marjorie Simmons, and Frances Dominick.
A funeral service celebrating Glenn's life will be conducted on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 1500 North A. Street, Elwood, with Rev. Bill Mathys and Rev. Jennifer Charles officiating. Entombment will follow at the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 3 to 8 PM at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood and also from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday prior to the funeral service at the church.
