Gladys A. Bambrough, age 87 of Pendleton and formerly of Elwood, passed away October 5, 2014 at Rawlins House in Pendleton following an extended illness. She was born September 23, 1927 near Parker City in Randolph County, Indiana, the daughter of Merle and Maggie Juanita (Vanderburg) Arthur. Gladys graduated from Parker High School in 1945, and later married Dan F. Bambrough on October 31, 1947. She was retired from the Visiting Nurse Association in Elwood where she was a home health aide for several years. She also formerly worked at Sears for many years. She was a longtime, devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Elwood where she was formerly active on the funeral dinner committee. Gladys was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, and embroidering. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and was a friend to all who knew her.
Gladys' family includes 2 daughters, Marilyn E. (husband Jim) Bambrough-Frazier-Hartwell of Elwood, Kathy D. Creamer of Anderson; son, Kenneth R. Bambrough of Elwood; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Matthew of Culver and Jeanne Arthur of Muncie; 6 grandchildren, Brian (wife Tina) Frazier, Amy Mack, Lisa (husband Mark) Badgley, S. Craig (wife Kim) Bambrough, Joshua Bambrough, and Michelle (husband Casey) Ventura; 11 great-grandchildren; a great- great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dan Bambrough in 1993; son, Stephen Bambrough in 1996; 4 brothers, Wilbur Arthur, Omer Arthur, Hubert Arthur, and Norville Arthur; 2 sisters, Edith Bales and Mildred Morvelious.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Elwood with Pastor Kal Rissman officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood.
