Gerry Lee Frye, age 74 of Lake Placid, FL and formerly of Elwood, Kokomo, and Hope, AR, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Bud and Donna Somers Hospice House in Sebring, Florida following a brief illness. He was born August 12, 1944 in Elwood, the son of George Lee and Estelle "Betty" (Bowman) Frye. Gerry was last employed as a truck driver for I Am Trucking and T-W Transport Company for many years. He also formerly worked at Cuneo Press in Kokomo for several years before they closed. Gerry was a member of the Eastside Christian Church in Lake Placid, FL. In Gerry's younger days, he enjoyed riding his Honda 750 Motorcycle. He also enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, and enjoyed eating good food. In recent years, Gerry especially enjoyed cruising around on his golf cart and driving his Cadillac. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gerry's family legacy includes 2 children, Darrell Wayne (wife Michelle) Frye of South Carolina and Tina Marie (husband James) Lee of Midlothian, VA; 2 brothers, William E. (wife Lolita) Frye of Fairmount and Jeffrey S. (wife Ursula) Frye of New Bern, NC; 2 sisters, Judy Kaye (husband Robert) Pernod of Lake Placid, FL and formerly of Fairmount and Georgia L. (husband Denny) Bauer of Kokomo; 7 grandchildren, Saylor Frye, Ethan Frye, Daylan Frye, Isaac Lee, Evelyn Lee, Owen Lee, and Addison Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service celebrating Gerry's life will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Ray Culpepper of the Eastside Christian Church in Lake Placid, FL officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 pm on Saturday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Eastside Christian Church in Lake Placid, FL through the funeral home. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
