Obituary

George M. "Joe" Reynolds , age 71 of Elwood, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Community Hospital in Anderson following brief illness.  He was born November 18, 1949 in Elwood, the son of Edwin B. "Bill" and Veatrice K. "Kate" (Campbell) Reynolds.  Joe was a 1968 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood.  In high school, Joe was very active in the vocational trades school.  He married the love of his life, Rita J. Brewer, on June 20, 1970, and they shared 51 years of marriage together.  Joe worked in metal fabrication at Acraline in Tipton for 12 years until he retired in 2008.  Joe was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood.  He formerly worked at Paint and Assembly Corporation (PAC), Continental Can Corporation, and Airfoil Textron – all in Elwood.  Joe enjoyed camping and was known to many as a "gentle giant".  Joe was known as the man who could fix anything mechanical in a car and had worked on numerous cars for members of the Vintage Rollers Car Club.  He liked everything about cars and racing.  More than anything, Joe loved spending time with his family, and he especially enjoyed making his grandchildren smile.

Joe's family includes his wife, Rita J. Reynolds of Elwood; son, Michael (wife Victoria) Reynolds of New Haven; 2 grandchildren, Jackson Karl Reynolds and Miley Elaine Reynolds; sister, Sandra "Sandy" Patton of Indianapolis; and 2 nieces, Leslie and Donna.  Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin S. Reynolds; brother-in-law, Larry Patton; and great-nephew, Sammy Harley.

A funeral service celebrating Joe's life will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Health precautions for the safety of the family and visitors will include wearing face coverings and social distancing.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
