Obituary

George Lee Justice, age 91 of Elwood and Sebring, Florida, died July 9, 2012 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood surrounded by his family following a brief illness. He was born July 29, 1920 in Elwood to Grant and Bertha Irene (Tranbarger) Justice. He retired in 1979 from Delco Remy Corporation in Anderson where he worked as a Supervisor for 38 years. He was a 1939 graduate of Wendell Willkie High School in Elwood. George proudly served his country in Patton's 3rd Army during WWII. He survived the Omaha Beach invasion, and marched across Europe carrying his B.A.R. and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a member of the "Greatest Generation". George was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood; a life member of the Elwood Elks Lodge #368; a life member of the Elwood V.F.W. #5782; and a member of the American Legion. During his adult life he was active in an Elwood traveling baseball league, and also worked as a lifeguard. George also coached, umpired, and held many offices in the Harry Bridges Little League program in Elwood for many years. He married Betty J. (Shaw) Carmody on October 16, 1993. George took up golf at the age of 72 and was shooting under 100 when he gave it up this past December. He will be greatly missed by his family in Indiana and his extended family in Florida. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Community Parkview Care Center and St. Vincent Mercy Hospital for the exceptional care they provided for George.

He is survived by his wife Betty J. (Shaw) Carmody –Justice of Elwood; daughter, Linda (James) Lizon of Greenwood; son, John R. (Linda) Justice of Greenwood; step-son, Michael (Cindy) Carmody of Elwood; 4 grandchildren, Stephen (Diane) Lizon, Mary (Brian) Lewis, Gabriel (Holly) Justice, and Gregory (Katie) Justice; 4 great-grandsons, Grant, Dane, Isaac and Will; step-granddaughter, Michelle (Matt) Heineman; step-great grandchildren, Madelyn Heineman and Alex Heineman; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 52 years of marriage, Loranell (Baxter) Justice who died in 1992; daughter, Mary Lynn Justice; and brother, Robert E. Justice.

A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Chris Dare of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 2 PM prior to the memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood at a later date. Military honors by the U.S. Military and Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dive Into Elwood fund, the Harry Bridges Little League program, or the donor's favorite charity.
