George Ball, Jr., age 95, of Noblesville and formerly a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Prairie Lake Health Campus in Noblesville after a brief illness. He was born May 3, 1921 in Elwood, the son of George and Ethel (Crabtree) Ball. George retired in 1978 from Delco Remy Corporation in Anderson where he worked as a truck mechanic in plant 15 for more than 40 years. He was a 1940 graduate of Elwood High School and later served his country as an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. George married Wanda J. Warner on January 16, 1942 and they shared more than 66 years together. He formerly attended the First Baptist Church in Elwood. George was a member of the U.A.W. # 662, the American Legion, and the Hoosier Heartlander Camping Club. He was an avid camper and he and Wanda enjoyed traveling all over the United States. George was also a devoted Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
George's family includes 3 children, Greg (wife Sandra) Ball of Elwood, Joyce (husband Charles) Mosley of Lapel, and Gordon (wife Sheila) Ball of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Dawn (husband Mike) Buck of New Albany, OH, Justal (wife Terina) Ball of Elwood, Trevor (wife Amber) Ball of Cape Coral, FL, Trisha (husband Eddie) Bousman of Lapel, and Aaron (wife Heather) Mosley of Lapel; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special nurse at Prairie Lakes Healthcare, Holly; and his beloved dogs, "Tex" and "Buddy".
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Elwood City Cemetery with family friend, Rich Leavell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter, c/o Elwood City Clerk Treasurer, 1505 South B Street, Elwood, IN 46036.
