George D. Heady, age 70 - a lifelong resident of Elwood, died peacefully on Thursday at his residence surrounded by his family following extensive health problems. He was born January 15, 1945 in Elwood, the son of Pearl Andrew "Bill" and Vera (Atwood) Heady. George worked at State Plating in Elwood for 13 years in Maintenance, and later retired from General Cage in Elwood in 2004. He was a 1964 graduate of Frankton High School, and later married Nancy J. Longnecker on May 29, 1965. They recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary together. George enjoyed Golfing, woodworking, fishing, and also formerly enjoyed hunting. George especially enjoyed local sporting events and watching his grandkids at numerous games through the years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
George's family includes his wife of 50 years, Nancy J. Heady of Elwood; son, Andy Heady of Elwood; daughter, Tracy (husband Kenneth) Reeves of Elwood; 3 brothers, Bob (wife Denise) Heady of Danville, Thomas Heady of Elwood, and Fred (wife Marcy) Heady of Warsaw; sister, Patty (husband Don) Slayton of Tennessee; 4 grandchildren, Cole Heady, Kendra Reeves, Sierra Heady, and Raistlin Heady; 2 step-grandchildren, Ashley Reeves and Dustin Reeves; 5 great-grandchildren, Diana, Zoey, Ashlynn, Deanna, and Brielle; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Bill Heady and Don Heady.
Cremation will take place, and services will be held privately by his family. Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home has been entrusted with George's funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to Morrisett Center Food Pantry in Elwood. Online condolences may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
