George E.
Bixby
Dec 1, 1959 — Apr 29, 2025
George Edward Bixby, age 65 of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at his home following a brief illness. He was born December 1, 1959 in Dowagiac, Michigan, the son of Samuel Nathan and June Joann (Ramsby) Bixby. In his youth, his family moved to Elwood, Indiana. While in junior high school, he met the love of his life, Pamela J. Baldwin. They officially became a couple on March 5, 1981 and have shared over 44 years of life together. George retired as a heavy equipment operator from the City of Elwood Street Department in 2021 after 43 years of faithful service. After retiring from the Street Department, George became the president of Bixby's Construction, and he was able to work alongside his brother, Mark.
One of his greatest enjoyments in life was hunting rabbits and coons with his beloved hunting dogs. George also liked to go fishing, go out to eat, go to the local auctions (especially at Strawtown), and anything that involved working in his yard. He spent lots of weekends at the Anderson Speedway helping friends in the pit area and simply watching the races with family and good friends. George was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan, and he especially liked working on cars of his own. More than anything, George enjoyed the simplicity of life and spending time with his family and friends.
George's family includes longtime companion, Pamela J. Baldwin of Elwood; beloved parrot, "Max"; hunting beagles, Buster, Miles, Legs, Belle, and Girl; 4 brothers, Sam (Anna) Bixby of Elwood, Terry (Kecia) Bixby of Anderson, Donald (Dawn) Bixby of Elwood, and Mark (Peggy) Bixby of Elwood; 3 sisters, Brenda Bixby of Elwood, Debbie (Tim) Bixby of Elwood, and Tammy Shepard of Elwood; and several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Ronald Bixby, Mike Bixby, and Dan Bixby; and a sister, Pam Bixby.
George's wishes were to be cremated and his family will have a celebration of life at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. To honor George's love of animals, memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood Animal Shelter through the funeral home. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
