Evonne J. Green , age 88 and a lifelong resident of West Elwood, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 21, 2019 at I.U. Health - Tipton Hospital following a very sudden illness.  She was born June 23, 1931 in Elwood, the daughter of Frank McCall and Eleanor (Dupont) Simpson.  She graduated in 1949 from Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood.  Evonne married Joseph "Dan" Green on October 22, 1950 and shared over 68 years of marriage together.  Evonne and Dan owned 22 ^nd Street Hardware in Elwood for nearly 30 years until the late 1990's, and Evonne was the bookkeeper for the business.  She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood for many years, and formerly a very active member of the Beta Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Elwood.  Evonne enjoyed gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, shopping, and painting.  She was an avid animal lover having numerous cats and dogs through the years; and she also liked horses and riding horses.  In retirement, Evonne worked for 6 years with the Belgium Horse Association.  She and Dan enjoyed traveling very much, and they had several memorable trips to the Smoky Mountains, as well as all other National Parks, and Europe.  More than anything, Evonne loved spending valuable time with all her family.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evonne's family legacy includes her husband, J. Dan Green of Elwood; 4 children, Diana (husband Michael) Hughes of Franklin, Natalie (husband Bruce) Thompson of Tipton, Kelly Green-Collis of Tipton, and Scott Green of Cicero; 7 grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Floyd, Jacob (Andrea) Collis, Steven Thompson, Alex (Dani) Green, Blake (Tori) Green, Emmy Green, and Jackson Hughes; 3 great-granddaughters, Alexandra, Evelyn, and Olivia Collis; and several nieces and nephews.  Evonne was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, F. William "Bill" (wife Joyce) McCall.

A funeral service celebrating Evonne's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2019 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  There will be no public visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society through the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
