Evelyn Y. Gerard, age 78 of Elwood, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 14, 2014 surrounded by her family at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital in Anderson. She was born on February 26, 1935 in Tipton County, the daughter of Walter and Julia "Marie" (Davis) Parr. She worked in production at RCA Corporation in Marion for 15 years, and retired in 1986. On June 6, 1953, she married the love of her life, Victor "Harold" Gerard, and they shared over 60 years of marriage together. Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood. Early in her life, Evelyn enjoyed working as a nurse aid in the polio unit of the hospital in Anchorage, Alaska where her husband was stationed in the military. She also enjoyed spending time with her family; cooking; shopping; and watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and I.U. sports. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; and will be greatly missed.

Her surviving family includes her husband, Victor "Harold" Gerard of Elwood; daughter, Carol (husband Roger) Ashby of Elwood and son, Brian Gerard of Indianapolis; 5 sisters, Bernice (husband Ralph) Gillam of Elwood, Alice (husband John) Duffy of Dayton, OH, Marge (husband Ebe) Cotton of Elwood, Shirley Rohrer of Carmel, and Carolyn Plake of Tipton; 5 grandchildren, Christy Gerard, Misty Gerard, Jennifer (husband Wade) Wingler, Brian Gerard, and Matthew (wife Sara) Ashby; 6 great-grandchildren, Austin Hinchman, Dylan Gerard, Dontrez Gerard, Katie Wingler, Jakob Wingler, and Eleanor Evelyn Wingler; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Louis Parr and Jack Parr; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Gerard.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at St. Joseph Church in Elwood with Father Dan Duff officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 PM on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph Church building fund.
