Evelyn "Peggy"
D. Ours
Nov 24, 1937 — Dec 5, 2023
Evelyn Delane "Peggy" Ours , age 86 of Elwood, passed away on Dec. 5, 2023 at The Waters of Tipton after a battle with Parkinson's and Dementia. She was born November 24, 1937 in Three Churches, West Virginia, the daughter of Jacob F. and Ethel V. (Ganoe) Shanholtz. Peggy worked in production at Airfoil Textron (Ex-Cello) in Elwood for many years before retirement. She was a member of the Grace Community Church (formerly Grace United Methodist) in Elwood and enjoyed fellowship with the ladies of the church.
Peggy was a person who always had a smile on her face and a kind word for anyone she met. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was an avid bowler for many years, bowling in leagues at both Lucky Strike and Wells Lanes. Peggy enjoyed a unique pastime of belly-dancing for fun and exercise; and she was involved in demonstrations and performances for several years. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening and caring for her flowers, and spending time with her "grand puppies", Bo, Mooch, and Sheltsie. Peggy enjoyed nature and once found a very unique rock to add to her daughter's collection while traveling out west; only to find out that it was actually a large chunk of rubber tire. She especially enjoyed trips back home to Virginia, fishing, and watching hummingbirds and wood-peckers. Peggy will be remembered as someone who was "mom" to all her extended family, and she will be dearly missed.
Peggy's family includes 3 daughters, Dianne (Steve) Sallee of Elwood, Angelina Sullivan of Florida, and Tina Ours of Tipton; former sons-in-law, Scot Gasho and Todd Sullivan; 3 grandchildren, Travis Sallee, Jennifer Savage, and Arika Sullivan; 4 great-grandchildren, Haylee, Jadelyn, Michaea, and Alaric; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Zenna and Callen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Charles Ours; special friend, Ed Holtsclaw; and 4 brothers, Leo, Charles, Bobby, and Andy Shanholtz.
A life celebration visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood and will conclude with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 4:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, Virginia in Spring of 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morrisett Center Food Pantry or the charity of the donor's choice.
