Evalyn R. VanBriggle, age 89 of Elwood died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood after a brief illness. She was born October 27, 1924 in Tipton County, the daughter of Oscar E. and Bertha A. (Johnson) Hoover. Evalyn was a homemaker and farm wife all of her life. She married Gene VanBriggle June 14, 1942. She was a devoted member of East Main Street Christian Church, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Red Corner Home Economics Club. She formerly enjoyed bowling, was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano.
Evalyn's family includes 5 children, Gwendolyn (husband Rick) Titus of Elwood, Deborah Sue VanBriggle of Anderson, Larry W. (wife Teresa) VanBriggle of Frankton, Terry G. (Companion Anna) VanBriggle of Rensselaer, and Rex (wife Barbara) VanBriggle of Frankton; 4 sisters, Esther Humphries of Clovis, NM., LaVien Luttrell of Seymour, Betty "Jo" Jarvis of McMinnsville, OR., and Gretchen Fakes of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hoover of Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene VanBriggle who died in 2008; 2 daughters, Barbara Lee and Vicki Lynn VanBriggle; great-grandson, Victor Ray Muncy; 2 brothers, Carmel Hoover and Gail "Gene" Hoover; and 4 sisters, Althea Fern Hoover, Lloyd Carmichael, Dorothy Miller, and Sara Ann Weese.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 28, 2014 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the funeral home.
