Ervin S. Jackman, age 76 of Elwood, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on April 17, 1936 in Anderson, the son of George and Margaret (Shelton) Jackman. He was a tool & die maker at Delphi Corporation in Marion for 27 years, and retired in January of 1999. Ervin was a 1956 graduate of Wendell Willkie High School in Elwood, and later served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Norma J. Beeman on May 3, 1958. He was a member of the Frankton Masonic Lodge; member of U.A.W. #662; and was an avid Ford Model "A" car enthusiast. He also enjoyed fishing, watching western movies, building electric trains, and woodworking. More than anything, Ervin enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
His surviving family includes wife of 54 years, Norma J. (Beeman) Jackman of Elwood; 2 children, Renee (husband Tim) Maddox of Elwood and Mike Jackman of Elwood; 3 brothers, Butch (wife Jerri) Jackman of Elwood, Robert (wife Sue) Jackman of Mooresville, and Jim Jackman of Hammond; sister, Peggy (husband Sam) Leonard of Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Christle Wilburn (friend Mike Head), Chelsea Christie (friend Mike Moore), Zack Hartman (friend Kathleen Stiner), Nick Hartman (friend Rebecca Faulstich), and Jerica Jackman; 3 great-grandchildren, Craig Wilburn, Peacelynn Moore, and Timothy Head; beloved dog, "Bear"; and several nieces and nephews.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Jackman; and step-mother, Anna Jackman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Chris Dare of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The funeral will start with a Masonic memorial service by members of the Frankton Masonic Lodge. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 PM on Monday at the funeral home prior to the funeral.
