Obituary

Edward A. Kane, age 85 of Elwood, passed away in his sleep early on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood.  Ed was born August 25, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the son of Alexander and Helen (Seehase) Kane.  Ed was the founder and owner of Mr. Happy Burger in Elwood since his family moved to Elwood in 1964, and the business remains family-owned and operated for 53 years with son, Brian, now managing the business.  He also formerly worked as a salesman for National Cash Register Corporation for many years.  Ed was a graduate of Bangor High School in Michigan, and later graduated from Western Michigan University.  He married Della M. Hayes in 1953, and they share over 64 years of marriage together until her recent passing this year.

Ed was former President of the Elwood Kiwanis Club, and was fortunate to attend the national convention in Canada during that time.  He enjoyed numerous fishing trips to Minnesota with his friends and family, and especially enjoyed retaining ownership of his family farm in Michigan where he found joy in mowing and the beautiful country scenery.  Ed was a member and formerly served as Quartermaster of the Elwood V.F.W. where he enjoyed socializing with members; and was a member of both the Elwood American Legion and Elwood Elks Lodge.  He was especially skilled at gardening and cooking - known for preparing delicious meat dishes.  Ed also enjoyed listening to music on his record player, and playing the Harmonica.  More than anything, he enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren; and he will be greatly missed.

Ed's family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood for the wonderful care they provided to Ed in recent years.

Ed's family legacy includes 3 children, Alan (wife Shirley) Kane of Jacksonville, FL, Lynne Kane of Jacksonville, FL, and Brian (wife Teri) Kane of Elwood; sister-in-law, Shirley (husband John) Schmitt of Michigan; brother-in-law, Phillip (wife Regina) Hayes of Michigan; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (wife Jamie) Kane, Hillary Anderson, and Aaron Kane; 4 great-grandchildren, Jacob Anderson, Brittany Anderson, Samantha Kane, and Brennan Kane; and several nieces and nephews.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Della M. Kane in 2017; and brother, Richard Kane.

Cremation will take place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan.  Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood has been entrusted with Ed's arrangements.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elwood V.F.W. through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made to the Kane family at copherfeslermay.com.
