"Eddie" Etchison

Edgar L. "Eddie" Etchison , age 80 of Alexandria, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness. He was born August 18, 1942 in Winchester, the son of Roy F. and Frances Mae (North) Etchison. Eddie graduated in 1960 from Alexandria High School, and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve 8 years for his country. He married Linda E. (Clark) Roe on March 1, 1984 and they shared over 39 years of marriage together. Eddie and Linda formerly attended the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene. Eddie retired from Connor Prairie in 2010 where he worked in security for many years. He also formerly worked in maintenance at Wal-Mart in Noblesville; worked as an assistant at Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria; and worked at Johns Manville in Alexandria from 1968-1979.
Eddie was an avid Elwood High School basketball fan, and could be seen sitting in his floor seat cheering on the team. He loved to watch all kinds of sports on television. Eddie was a relatively simple man who never knew a stranger. He loved talking and sharing stories of all kinds with everyone he met. Eddie will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Eddie's family includes his wife, Linda Etchison of Alexandria; 3 step-sons, Michael Roe of Bluffton, Don Roe of Alexandria, and John (Heather) Roe of Bluffton; brother, Phil (Julie) Etchison of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Don Alexander of Wabash; 4 grandchildren, Meaghan Roe, Brittany Roe, Bridgette (Dustin) Stafford, and Myranda (Bailey) Boles; great-granddaughter, Gemma Stafford; and several nieces and nephews. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandy Alexander.
Following cremation, a memorial service celebrating Eddie's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with his step-son, Pastor John Roe officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the U.S. Navy and Elwood V.F.W. Honor Guard. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 pm prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood High School Athletics Department.
