Obituary

Eddie Joe Wright, age 69 of Fort Myers, Florida and formerly of Elwood, passed away unexpectedly July 10, 2017 at Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born April 15, 1948 in Elwood, the son of Edward Junior and Genevieve (Todd) Wright.  Eddie was a graduate of Anderson High School, and later worked in production for Delco Remy in Anderson for 30 years retiring in 1992.  He married Mary L. Harting on June 30, 1989, and they shared 28 years of marriage together.  Eddie was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Elwood, the Elwood Elks Lodge #368, the Elwood Conservation Club, U.A.W Union #662 in Anderson, and the "Six-Pack" Fishing Club in Fort Myers.  He enjoyed archery, hunting, boating, and fishing; and had won several big fish awards for his catches over the years.  In addition, he was an avid bowler for many years and a member of the "600" Club at Lucky Strike Lanes in Elwood.  Eddie was a certified American Softball Association (ASA) umpire, and helped build the first softball field in Elwood.  He coached softball from his daughter's years all the way through to his granddaughter's years in the sport.  Eddie was known for being quite a jokester with a great sense of humor and storytelling gifts.  More than anything, he was devoted to his all his family, and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Eddie's family includes his wife, Mary L. Wright of Fort Myers, FL; daughter, Alycia (husband Scott) Brown of Greentown; 3 step-children, Dawn (husband Vince) Bradley of Fort Myers, FL, Stephanie (husband Chris) Johnson of Powell, OH, and Lynne (husband Sam) Alameda of South Bend; sister, Judy (husband Ron) Huffman of Elwood; granddaughter, Kacey Brown of Fort Wayne; 5 step-grandchilden, Johnathan Bradley, Mac Johnson, Declan Johnson, Lauren (husband Tim) Beatty, Chris Susaraba; 3 nieces, Rhonda, Lynn, Rae Ann; and beloved dog, "Maggy May".  He was preceded in death by his both of his parents.

A funeral service celebrating Eddie's life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 17, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of East Main Street Christian Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.  Online condolences to the Wright family may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
