Doyle W. Tomlinson, age 77 of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Community Hospital in Anderson following an extensive illness.  He was born on July 20, 1940 in Windfall, the son of Chandler and Mary Jane (Applegate) Tomlinson.  He married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Chambers on November 4, 1961, and they shared 56 years of marriage together.  Doyle worked as a heavy equipment operator for I.M.I. in Chesterfield for 20 years and retired in 1995.  He also previously worked for Norfolk-Western Railroad for 8 years, Firestone Corporation, and Stevens Springs Co. in Elwood when he was young.  Doyle attended Elwood Schools in the class of 1958, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.  He was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Church in Elwood.  Doyle especially enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, adult coloring books watching hummingbirds, roses, and irises.  He was an avid Colts fan, and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports.  More than anything, Doyle loved to spend time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He will always be remembered as someone who never knew a stranger and always a smile on his face.

Doyle's family legacy includes his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Sue Tomlinson of Elwood; 2 daughters, Myra (husband James) Tillery of Elwood, and Toni (husband Bryan) LaShure of Elwood; 2 brothers, Denny Tomlinson of Tipton, and Robert Tomlinson of Florida; 3 sisters, Beverly (husband Jerry) Hunt of Florida, Becky (husband John) Stafford of Shirley, and Kathy Rose of Kokomo; 2 brothers-in-law, Larry (wife Joyce) Chambers of Elwood, and John (wife Barb) Chambers of Elwood; sister-in-law, Kathy (husband Terry) Raquet of Texas; 6 grandchildren, Zach Bowyer (companion Olivia), Nicholas (wife Emily) LaShure, Dylan LaShure (companion Christina), Thomas LaShure, Carolyn Tillery, and Joshua Tillery; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; 3 siblings, Donald Tomlinson, Ronald Tomlinson, and Sandra Sue Tomlinson; sister-in-law, Linda Jane and husband Vic Angell; niece, Ginger Tomlinson; and nephew, Jack Tomlinson.

A visitation and gathering for family and friends will take place from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and will include a family sharing time at 7:00 PM.  Following cremation, a memorial service celebrating Doyle's life will also be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Elwood's Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, (1030 North SR 37 South, Elwood, IN 46036) with Elder Dave Dunn officiating.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Elwood.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
